How does lactulose work?
A
Osmotic laxative
= draws fluid in to increase amount of water in large bowel

How does senna work?
A
Stimulant laxative
= increases intestinal motility (given orally or per rectum)

What are two stool softener laxatives and how do they work?
A
Docusate sodium is a stimulant and also a stool softener
Glycerine suppositories break down stool to aid passing and provide lubrication.
