Constant Acceleration Flashcards
What is displacement?
A vector quantity - distance from a point which can be positive or negative.
What is velocity?
The rate of change of displacement with respect to time. V= ds/dt. This is a vector and can be positive or negative.
What is acceleration?
The rate of change in velocity with respect to time. Acc = dv/dt. This is a vector and can be positive or negative.
What is average velocity?
Overall displacement / Overall time
What is average speed?
Overall distance travelled / Overall time
On a velocity-time graph, what does the height represent?
The velocity at a given time
On a velocity-time graph, what does the gradient at a certain point represent?
Acceleration
On a velocity-time graph, what does the gradient being negative represent?
The object is either:
decelerating in the positive direction
accelerating in the negative direction
What does a horizontal line on a velocity-time graph represent?
The object is travelling at a constant velocity.
What does the area under a velocity-time graph represent?
The object’s displacement
What does g represent?
Acceleration due to gravity, going downwards.
We say this equals 9.8 downwards and -9.8 upwards
