conservative porcelain veneer prep Flashcards
veneer
1) thin ceramic restoration bonded to front of teeth
2) change color, shape, close spaces, add length
feldspathic porcelain
1) pretty but fragile
lithium disilicate
stronger, less pretty
contraindication
1) poor oral hygiene
2) extensive loss of enamel
3) unhealthy perio
4) unreasonable esthetic demands
5) functional concerns (posterior open bit, anterior cross bite)
enamel preservation
1) remain in enamel for stength and predictable bonding
reduction putty
1) falls over the bicuspids and has to cover the incisal edge
2) do not cover the lingual
3) draw line 2 mm from incisal edge
- cut incisal edge from cuspid to cuspid
4) draw lines 3 mm from cut
- cut little mouths on the putty
- only cut open one side of the putty
prep process
1) depth cutting bur
- 0.3 mm
2) follow curve and contour
3) mark depth cuts with pencil
4) incisal reduction 1.5 - 2 mm
5 )join depth cuts
6 )conservative margin made with 012
- just above the gingival margin 0.5 mm
- feather margin
7) keep checking reduction with the putty
- you should have less towards the gingival
- 0.3mm - 0.7mm (incisal)
stay in enamel
1) ivoclar tells you you need 0.6 of reduction
2) you only have 0.3 of enamel reduction available
- enamel is thinner at CEJ!!
shade change
1) for 1st shade change
- you need 0.3 mm of veneer thickness
2) 0.2 for each additional shade change after (A3>A2>A1)
3) minimum machine thickness 0.5 mm
4) minimum definable chamfer margin 0.3 mm
proximal reduction
1) maintain the contact
2) remove J lips
3) push proximal margins lingual to optimize esthetics and preserve contacts
- “wings” sweep under the contact
4) path of insertion is via buccal
refine
1) the incisal and facial edge needs to be SMOOTH
- optidisc
veener provisional
1) spot bond technique
2) place a small dot of etch on the mid facial, rinse, place a small amount of bonding agent on the same area, bond teeth with flowable or build up with composite (single unit)
- must be very PRECISE!!
3) shrink wrap technique
- smile design putty. place integrity into putty and place on teeth, allow integrity to set on teeth
- trim carefully
- mechanically retentive
bonding protocol
1) isolation. isodry, or rubber dam
2) full bonding protocol
3) technique sensitive
