Which theorists have formed key ideas regarding conservatism and what were they.
Burke - Believes that a hierarchy is needed and fair. He believes that the enfranchisement of the working class leads to revolution. He also believes that property ownership ensures someone’s stake in society.
Disraeli - Believed that if his party gave them the vote they would be more likely to vote Conservative.
What is the conservative view on human nature (K)
They have a sceptical view of human nature, people are corruptible. Human nature is flawed and criminality is caused by personal greed rather than systemic flaws. They believe in a strong legal system in which punishment is needed.

Human nature is reflected by the Conservative policies and development of authoritarian institutes to ensure social security. People need to desire to improve their own circumstances and this approach is highly individualistic. In order to achieve this, a strong government is needed.

Traditions they believe in refer to beliefs, practises, customs and institutions. This maintains an image. Tradition includes national identity and tradition. Burke believed that there is a natural hierarchy which must be maintained to ensure peace.

For example, conservatives tend not to support devolution to maintain the tradition of the union.

Property owners are proud individuals which are less likely to cause social disruption. People should enjoy the fruits of their labour and property provides security and reduces the chances of people relying on welfare.
