it also gives people a steak in society and would mean others would respect others property to deter crime

why do Neo liberals oppose welfare state?
they believe it creates a dependancy culture in which people rely on benefits to survive, rather than working hard for own benefit. the heavy taxation needed for welfare does not reward wealth creation
