Conservation Principles Flashcards
Intensive quantity
A quantity that does not depend on the amount of material. Example is density.
Extensive quantity
A quantity that depends on the amount of material. Example is mass.
Pull back operation
An operation that takes an eulerian tensor and converts it into a lagrangian tensor.
Push forward operation
An operation that takes a lagrangian tensor into an eulerian tensor.
Additive decomposition of D
D = D^e + D^Pā
Define L
L = Fdot F^-1 L = D + W L = partial of v with respect to x (spatial velocity gradient)
Material derivative of a line element
dxdot = Ldx
Material derivative of a volume
dVdot = tr(L) dV
Material derivative of an area element
dadot = tr(L) da - da.L
Material derivative of J
Jdot = J Tr(L) = Jdiv(v)
First piola kirchoff stress
P = F^T*sigma
P is a non-symmetric tensor
P^T (piola kirchoff stress transposed)
P^T = JsigmaF^-T
P is a non symmetric tensor
