Conservation of Energy revision cards Flashcards
Name the ten types of Energy
Light, Sound, Thermal, Electrical, Kinetic, Gravitational, Nuclear, Magnetic, Strain/Elastic potential, Chemical
What is the Law of conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred from one object to another or transformed from one type to another.
What does ‘Energy is dissipated’ mean?
Energy spreads out into the surroundings/air and is wasted or can no longer be used.
What is the equation for efficiency?
Useful energy out / total energy in
Insulation reduces the three types of heat transfer - name them.
Conduction, convection and radiation
What is the equation for gravitational potential energy?
ΔGPE = m x g x Δh
What is the equation for kinetic energy?
KE = 1/2 x m x v2
Fossil fuels and nuclear fuels are both examples of which type of resource?
Non-renewable
Name 4 non renewable energy resources.
Solar cells, wind turbines, hydroelectricity, tidal power, (biofuels).
