Conservation of energy Flashcards
What are the 8 types of energy stores?
- Kinetic
- Thermal
- Chemical
- Gravitational potential
- Elastic potential
- Electrostatic
- Magnetic
- Nuclear
Example of kinetic store
Anything that is moving
Example of a thermal store
any object (the hotter it is the more energy it has)
Example of a chemical store
anything that releases energy by chemical reaction. E.g Fuel
Example of a gravitational potential store
anything which can fall(in a gravitational field)
Example of an Elastic potential store
anything stretched. Springs + rubber bands
Example of a Magnetic store
magnets that repel/ attract
Example of a nuclear store
atomic nuclei release this energy from this store in nuclear reactions
Four ways in which energy is transferred
Mechanically-
Electrically
By heating
By radiation
how is energy transferred mechanically?
moves due to a force acting on it
What is the principle of conservation of energy
Can never be created or destroyed
What does total energy input =
Total energy = useful energy output + wasted energy
Example of an electrostatic store
Two charges that attract or repel each other
