What does Conservation in situ mean?
Conservation in situ means conserving a species in its normal environment.
What can legislations do?
Legislations can be passed to stop activities such as hunting, logging, clearing land for development and agriculture.
What do conservation parks do?
National areas/conservation parks can be established. These are sites of in sites conservation. Land management agreements can also be used for conversation.
What must you consider when choosing an area for a conservational park?
There needs to be a wide representation of species in an area, there needs to be adequate space for species, there needs to be a full range of diversity within each species and a set of environmental conditions.
What are the advantages of Reserves?
Plants/animals are conserved in their natural environments, permanently protecting biodiversity, protects precious elements of natural and cultural heritage, allows management of areas to ensure ecological integrity, opportunities for ecologically sustainable land use, facilitates scientific research, may restore ecological integrity of an area.
Who do conservation parks have to meet the needs of?
Conservations do not exclude human activity, will meet the need of indigenous people.
What happens if conservation parks are set up without consideration?
If reserves are set up without consideration conflict will arise – protected animals raid crops, hunt protected animals for food, illegal harvesting of timber/plants, tourists feeding animals or leaving litter.
What are the organisations which aim to conserve?
Various bodies work to conserve landscape, biodiversity, geology, soils and natural resources government bodies protect these resources, Natural England, Scottish Natural Heritage, Countryside Council for Wales, and Environment and Heritage in Northern Ireland.
How is England Conserved?
National Parks – 14 in UK.
National Nature Reserve – 215 NNRs at end of 2004, covering nearly every type of vegetation.
SSSI’s – best wildlife and geological sites.
Local Nature Reserves – run by Council Wildlife Trusts.
Where can Repopulation occur?
Repopulation can occur to areas of crops to restore natural habitats.
