Conservation and Dissipation of Energy (Paper 1) Flashcards
Define ‘work done’
The force acting on an object to make that object move.
What is ‘work done’ the same as?
Energy transfered.
What is the equation linking force, work done, and distance.
W=Fs
Where W is work done, F is force, and s is distance moved. (along the line of action of the force).
What is the energy in work done to overcome friction transferred as and where to?
Work done to overcome friction is transferred as energy to the thermal energy stores of the objects that rub together and to the surroundings.
Define ‘power’
Power is the rate of transfer of energy.
What is an equation to calculate power?
An equation used to calculate power is P=E/t
When P is power, E is energy transferred to the appliance, and t is the time taken for energy to be transferred.
