Conservation and Dissipation of Energy Flashcards
What do Cars, Buses and Planes all use?
Chemical Energy stores
What different ways can Electricity be transferred?
Heating, Waves, An Electric Current or a force being applied to move an object
What are examples of Chemical Energy stores?
Fuels, Food and The chemical in Batteries
When is the energy transferred?
During the chemical reactions
What does Kinetic Energy describe?
The energy the object has because it is moving
What does Gravitational Potential Energy describe?
The energy stored in an object because of its positioning
What does Elastic Potential Energy describe?
The energy stored in a springy object when you stretch or squash it
What does thermal energy describe?
The energy a substance has because of its temperature
How is energy transferred in a torch?
The torches battery pushes a current through the bulb which makes the torch bulb emit light and also get hot
What happens when a ball is thrown into the air
The ball gradually starts to slow down as it goes up this is because the energy is transferred from the balls kinetic energy store to its gpe store
Why does an object start to speed up as it falls
Because the force of gravity is acting onto the object which causes energy to be transferred from its gpe to its kinetic energy store
What happens when a roller coaster descends
The gpe decreases and the Kinetic Energy increases
What other energy stores occur during a roller coaster ride
Thermal Energy (Surroundings) and Sound Energy
Energy Transferred=
=Work Done
When a rubber band is stretched what increases?
The elastic potential energy
