- Maintain ecological balance by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen

- Prevent floods and soil erosion

- Checking reckless deforestation
- Shifting cultivation should be stopped among tribes
- Prevent forest fires
- Checking unplanned and unauthorized urbanization

- Most important is afforestation ( Eg. measures by the government such as Van Mahotsav in India)
