- Understand the information given to them that is relevant to the decision
- Retain that info long enough to make the decision
- Use or weight up the info as part of the decision making process
- Communicate their decision - by talking, sign language, blinking, squeezing a hand etc.
What are some extra questions that should be asked in the Medical History of a paediatric patient
- Any complications during pregnancy/birth?
- Any severe childhood infections e.g. chicken pox, particularly under the age of 3
- Are the up to date with vaccinations?
