Connective Tissues Flashcards
Adipose (white and brown fat) STRUCTURE:
Cells contain triglyceride vesicles
Reticular STRUCTURE:
Network of fine collagen (reticular) fibers
Dense fibrous (regular and irregular) STRUCTURE:
Dense arrangement of collagen fiber bundles forming straps or sheets
Bone (compact and cancellous) STRUCTURE:
Hard, calcified matrix arranged in Osteons (compact) or network of beams (cancellous)
Cartilage (hyaline, fibrocartlage, and elastic) STRUCTURE:
Hard but somewhat flexible gel matrix with embedded chondrocytes
Blood STRUCTURE:
Liquid matrix with glowing red and white cells
Hematopoietic STRUCTURE:
Liquid matrix with dense arrangement of blood cell-producing cells
Loose fibrous (areolar) LOCATION:
Area between other tissues and organs (fascia)
Adipose (white and brown fat) LOCATION:
White-
Area under skin. Padding at various points
Brown- pockets within white fat of neck and torso
Reticular LOCATION:
Bone marrow, spleen, lymph nodes, cancellous bone cavities
Dense fibrous (regular and irregular) LOCATION:
Tendons, ligaments, skin (deep layer), facia, scar tissue
Cartilage (hyaline, fibrocartilage, and elastic) LOCATION:
HYALINE- part of nasal septum, area covering surfaces of bones at joints, larynx wall, rings in trachea, and bronchi
FIBROCARTILAGE- disks between vertebrae and in knee joint
ELASTIC- external ear
Blood LOCATION:
Blood vessels
Hematopoietic LOCATION:
Red bone marrow
Loose fibrous (areolar) FUNCTION:
Connection
