Connective Tissue Components Flashcards
Endomysium
Penetrates the interior of each fascicle and separates individual muscles
Fascia
Dense sheets or broadband of the regular connective tissue you that lines the body wall in limbs and supports and surrounds muscles
Sarcolemma
Cell membrane of a striated muscle fiber
Perimysium
A layer of dense regular connective tissue and surrounds groups of muscles
Epimysium
Connective tissue wrapping that surrounds the entire muscle
Fascicles
Bundles of muscle cell bound together by connective tissue to form a functional unit
Tendon
White fibrous cord of dense regular tissue that attaches muscle to bone
Aponeurosis
Sheet like tendon going one muscle with another or with bone
Myofibrils
Contractile proteins
Thick filaments
Composed of myosin
Thin filaments
Composed of actin
Myosin
Main component of thick filament and functions as a motor protein in all three types of muscle tissue
Actin
Main component into disks individual Actin joined to form in thin filaments
Titin
The third most plentiful protein in skeletal muscle
A-band
Dark bands
Z – band (disk)
Narrow pleated sheet regions of dense protein material that separate one sarcomere from the next
H – band
The center of each a band contains thick filaments
I-band
Light bands made of thin filament
M line
Middle of sarcomere
Sarcomere
Between two successive Z bands
Triad
Three units in the muscle fiber composed of a transverse tubule and the circle plasmic reticulum terminal cisterna on both sides
Sarcoplasmic reticulum
A network of saccules and tubes surrounding microfibrils rolls of a muscle fiber
Terminal cisterns
Holds calcium ions
Transverse tubulues
Small cylindrical invagination’s of the sarcolemma of striated muscle fibers that conduct muscle action potentials towards the center of the muscle fiber
Innervation
Where nerve and muscle come together
