Connective Tissue Flashcards
Characteristics of connective tissue
Most common, more matrix than cells, fibers running through the matrix
These are one of the strongest proteins the body makes
Collagen fibers
They look like spider webs and are found throughout the body anchoring other tissues to one another
Reticular fibers
They return to their original position once they have been pulled or stretched. These fibers are known as yellow fibers
Elastic fibers
Cells that create the tissue
Fibroblasts
Thick white fibers that are very strong and are made by the fibroblasts through protein synthesis
Collagen fibers
Type of WBC commonly found in CT. Releases histamine
Mast cell
Neutrophil or monocyte
WBC
Small collagen fibers secreted by fibroblasts
Reticular fibers
Very vascular
Adipose tissue CT proper
Makes up framework of nonhollow organs. Very vascular to filter the lymph
Loose Reticular CT proper
Packed with fibers, strength in all directions
Dense irregular CT proper
Strength in ONE direction
Dense Regular CT Proper
Allows movement of vertebrae
Dense Elastic CT proper
Toughest cartilage
Hyaline Cartilage
Alternate rows of cells, matrix, and fibers create a tissue that can absorb a lot of forces
Fibro cartilage
Can return to original shape after bending; external ears
Elastic Cartilage
Ring of cells
Lamella
Bone cell
Osteocyte
Little lake where cells live
Lacunae
Tiny canals that carry nutrients from one lacunae to another
Canaliculi
Carries blood vessels and nerves to the group of lamella belonging to that group
Haversion Canaler Central Canal
Travel at right angles connecting osteons, periosten, and medulary cavity
Volkmann’s or Perforating Canal
RBC
Erythrocytes
WBC
Leukocytes
Platelets
Thrombocytes
