Connective Tissue Flashcards
What two places is connective tissue derived from
Mesoderm, mesanchym
Definition of connective tissue
Cells in an extra cellular matrix meaning cells rarely touch
Functions of connective tissue
Binding of organs, support, physical protection, immune protection, movement, storage, heat protection and transport
What type of connective tissue produces heat?
Brown adipose- FAT
What connective tissue is used for transport?
Cartilage/ bone - movement
Function of fibroblasts
Secrete fibers and matrix
Functions of adipocytes cells
Fat cells that store energy
Functions of macrophages cells
Engulf bacteria, developed from monocytes
Function of plasma cells
Produce antibodies, developed from B lymphocytes
Function of mast cells- where this occurs
Produces histamine, release histamine into the bloodstream
Collagen fiber type
Composed of collagen and glycoprotein / tough and resistant to stretching
Where is collagen fiber found
Located in dermis, bone, cartilage, tendons and ligaments
Elastic fiber
Composed of protein elastin and provides strength and stretching capacity
Where is elastic fiber located
Skin, blood vessels, and lungs STRETCHY!!
Reticular fiber
Composed of collagen and glycoprotein
Where is reticular fiber located
Walls of blood vessels, spleen, and lymph nodes
What does reticular fiber do
Support network around fat cells, nerve fibers, and skeletal and smooth muscle fibers
Glycosaminoglycans (GAGS)
Important for regulating water and electrolyte balance of tissue
What are GAGS made of
Hyaluronic acid is thick, viscious and found in posterior eye
Chondroitin sulfate provides support- is jellylike
Where are GAGS found
Blood vessels , bones and gives cartilage it’s stiffness
