- Write down your personal “big idea statement to define your work contribution,” then encapsulate it in your “ten-second commercial. It should cover three elements: “what you do, who you do it for [and] how it makes their lives better.”
- We are most successful when we adapt ourselves to the occasion
- Foster a complimentary snap judgment by using your body language and facial expressions to radiate health, exuberance and positive energy
- Before you approach someone new, say something upbeat to yourself to help you smile in a genuine way. For example, repeat the word “great” a few times.
- To promote “trust and comfort,” stand so your heart directly faces the other person’s

- Look people in the eye and smile
- Fit in – become a chameleon: aligning your behaviors and attitudes with others’ actions to make a connection
- Let the other person do most of the talking. That will help you make a better connection.
- Encourage them by asking open-ended questions beginning with phrases such as “what do you think about…?” or “tell me about…”
- Treat each connection you make as if it’s the
most important one you’ve ever made.
