Active Packet Sniffing
An attack where data packets are changed while being sent.
Botnet
A group of infected computers controlled by a hacker.
Denial of Service (DoS) Attack
An attack that floods a network or server with too much traffic.
Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Attack
A DoS attack using many devices from different places.
Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP)
A protocol used by devices to report network errors.
Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) flood
A DoS attack that sends lots of ICMP requests to crash a server.
IP Spoofing
An attack where a hacker fakes an IP address to sneak into a network.
On-Path Attack
A hacker gets between two devices and reads or changes their data.
Packet Sniffing
Watching and capturing data traveling through a network.
Passive Packet Sniffing
Spying on all network traffic without changing anything.
Ping of Death
A DoS attack that crashes a system by sending an oversized ping.
Replay Attack
An attacker delays or reuses data to trick a system.
Smurf Attack
An attack that floods a network by sending fake pings from a stolen IP.
Synchronize (SYN) Flood Attack
An attack that floods a server with fake connection requests.
