Uses of the present indicative
- Habitual actions.

- Limpio la cocina. - Things happening in the near future.

Uses of the preterite
1) Completed events
- Compré un coche nuevo
- Ben y Julian se casaron
- Roberto nació en costa rica.
2) Beginnings and endings
- Empezo a nuevo
- La película terminó con una sorpresa.
3) Specific times and dates
- Regresé anoche a las diez
- Vivio en peru por tres meses
- Leiste este libro el mes pasado.
4) Events in sequence
- Me levanté, me vestï, y salí para la fiesta.
- Tu entrase, bebiste un vaso de agua y comiste una hamburguesa.

Uses of the past imperfect
1) Habitual or repeated past actions
- Almorzabamos cada dia
- todos los sábados las mujeres iban de compras.
2) Actions that were progressing in the past. (interrupted actions, combination of the imperfect and preterite)
- iba a clase cuando sonó el teléfono.
- Mi papa cocinaba cuando entré casa
- A veces le dolían las manos y las piernas.
3) Time and dates
- eran a las tres de la tarde
- Era el 9 de mayo.
4) Age
- Tenia 4 anos
5) Descriptions of characteristics, conditions and feelings
- Mi profesor era alto y tenia el pelo ondulado.
- El campo era bonito.
- Hacia calor esa noche.
