Types of congenital hypothyroidism
Dysgenesis - underdeveloped thyroid gland.
Dysormonogenesis - fully developed gland which does not produce enough hormone
Presentation of congenital hypothyroidism
Prolonged jaundice, poor feeding, constipation, increased sleeping, reduced activity, slow growth and development

Causes of acquired hypothyroidism
Autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s)
Symptoms of acquired hypothyroidism
Fatigue, low energy, poor growth, weight gain, poor school performance, constipation, dry skin, hair loss
Management of hypothyroidism
Levothyroxine orally once daily and doses titrated based on thyroid function tests and symptoms
Diagnosis and tests in hypothyroidism
TFTs, thyroid US, thyroid antibodies (anti-TPO)
