Congenital heart diseases Flashcards

Q
What are the most common congenital heart diseases in cats
A
Most severe congenital cardiac defects result in the death before the kitten is examined (usually 6-8 weeks)
The most common congenital heart diseases in cats are:
- atrial septal defects
- ventricular septal defects (the most common in some studies)
- atrioventricular valve malformation (tricuspid valve dysplasia the second most common)
- aortic and pulmonic stenosis
- endocardial cushion defects (where the entire interventricular septum is abnormal)
- patent ductus arteriosus (much less common than in dogs)
