Confounding Variable Flashcards

Q

What is a confounding variable

A

A confounding variable affects both the explanatory and response variable of a study. For example, in the case of if the explanatory variable was the amount of time spent watching tv and the response variable was grades (as time spent on tv increases grades decrease) then a confounding variable would be having strict parents as the parents would not only restrict tv usage but potentially force study resulting in higher grades.
