occurs when individuals adjust their behaviour and opinions to those in a group to be accepted or avoid disapproval

adjust their behaviour and opinions to those of a group because membership of that group is desirable
Both private and public and is temporary
what is internalisation
when individuals genuinely adjust their behaviours and opinions to those of a group
what is normative social influence (ISI)
When individuals are uncertain about something, they look at the behaviour and opinions of
others to help shape their own thoughts and behaviour.
often when choice is ambiguous or they are in unfamiliar situations
internalise their opinions
internalisation and or likely if we share the same characteristics (abram)
What is normative social influence (NSI)
to gain approval and
acceptance, to avoid rejection or to achieve specific goals.
individual must be under surveillance by the group and they comply
