What was ASCH research into?
Conformity
When did ASCH research take place?
1951
What was the aim of ASCH’s study?
to see if conformity still occurred when there was an obvious answer to a simple task.
What was the sample involved in
123 male American undergraduates
How were the PPTs grouped in ASCH’s study?
Each real PPT was placed in a group with 5-7 confederates.
Briefly summarise ASCH’s procedure
- Each PPT grouped with 5-7 confederates
- Told it was a task of visual activity
- PPt had to identify which of the 3 lines matched the length of the standard line.
- In 12/18 trials the Confederates gave the same wrong answer
- The true PPTs answer was recorded
