Q

Why did the German people hat the treaty so much?

A

• the German people felt the treaty was forced on them and they were not allowed to negotiate the terms( Diktat)
• war guilt clause, meaning accepting the responsibility for starting the war
• they had been told they were winning the war, so they felt stabbed in the back and betrayed by the government (November criminals)
• the people were starving because Britain had a blockade at the German ports during the war
• the kaiser had been forced to abdicate before the treaty was signed
• the German people felt it left them vulnerable
• 13% of land was lost to other countries so six million German people found that they were no longer living in Germany
