What was the armistice?
An agreement to stop fighting at the end of ww1. It was signed between France, Britain and Germany (11 nov) ending 4 years of war
Why did Germany agree to the armistice?
- short of manpower and supplies
- Usa sent more troops & supplies - Germany didn’t have a lot of time
- Sailors (German port of keil) refused to battle against Britain.
- German chancellor persuaded kaiser to step down & flee to holland
- Civilians protested in streets because of war : soilers killed, civilians suffered
- Germany failed to defeat allies so needed to end war
What was the German chancellor called that told kaiser to step down during ww1?

What was destroyed of Germany in ww1?
Many farms, factories and railways
What were the terms of the armistice?
- German fleet were seized
- Treaties towards Russia & Romania were cancelled
- Troops were to leave France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Alsace-Lorraine within 14 days
- They had to surrender : submarines, 5000 cannons, 25,000 machine guns, 1700 planes, 5000 locomotive engines and 150,000 rail cars
- Troops were to leave territory on the west side of the Rhine.
- All french, British and Italian prisoners were released however Germany had to wait til end of peace treaty
- Germany had to pay reparations for damage caused
What were the reactions of the armistice?
- Germany faces the possibility of civil war because of there divided country and ‘ desperate state ‘
- Britain, France and USA celebrated the end of fighting
- Germans were angry at how the war ended
- German soilders believes the war would start again

• under pressure to revenge Germany
• France had the most deaths, factories, farms and railways destroyed
• he wanted Germany to pay to rebuild France
• he wanted to make sure Germany was too weak to attack France again
David Lloyd George?
• Britain had severe losses
• Britain wanted revenge
• he thought if Germany were too punished they’d start another war
• wanted to protect British empire by taking germanys colonies & reducing germanys navy
• wanted Germany to be strong enough to trade with Britain
Woodrow wilson?
•idealist - suggested ways to make the world better
• usa made money selling weapons to allies
• fighting was a long way from American soil
• he was worried being too harsh on germany would cause another war

What were woodrows 14 points?
AIMED TO ENCOURAGE THE WORLD TO WORK TOGETHER:
1. Freedom of seas - allowing any country to sail and trade to wherever
2. Self determination - ability for countries to rule themselves
3. Forming independant polish state - access to sea
4. Returning Alsace Lorraine to France
5. End of secret treaties
6. Creation of League of Nations allowing countries to work together and solve problems

How were Wilson’s views different to Clemenceau’s views?
Wilson focused on building a fairer society/world and preventing war. He did not want to punish Germany too severely. However Clemenceau wanted to revenge Germany and crush them.
