What was George Clemenceau’s aims?
He was under pressure to take revenge on Germany and wanted Germany to pay to rebuild France
What was David Lloyd George’s aims?
He did want harsh pinishments in fear of war and wanted Germany ro be strong enough to trade with Britain
What was Woodrow Wilson’s aims?
He wanted to begin League of Nations.
Aims of the Treaty of Verailles were…
- Union between Austria and Germany was banned
- Germany lost more than 10% of its territory
- Germany was not allowed to join the League of Nations
- Military was severly restricted: Navy - 15 000 men and six battleships; Army - 100 000 men, conscription banned, not tanks or armed vehicles, Rhineland was demilitarised; Air Force - not allowed

When Hindenburg died, Hitler declared himself jointly president, chancellor and head of the army, this formally made Hitler the absolute ruler of Germany.

Why did Japan want to invade Manchuria?
- The great depression affected Japan badly
- Manchuria had many natutral resources
- Manchuria was close and Japan already had troops there
- They had invaded Manchuria before
What was the League’s reaction to the invasion?
China appealed to the LON but they didnt help as many people believed that Japan would be a better ruler than China and many people felt that Japan were entitled to Manchuria.
What were the consequences?
They had failed and this made them look weak as a member of their council had broken rules and they did very little about it. This shoed that LON would let large countries get away with aggression and made the league look weak and indecisive.

Italy invaded Abyssinia in October 1935
