Russia does have a right to claim that Kievan Rus is part of their cultural, historical and religious identity because they spoke ancient Russian and played a very important role in the country’s development. They believe that because these lands once were russian and till now they speak russian they want to be reunited as one.

There would be a bigger number of countries making it be a threat to Russia
The barrier countries in between them (soviet union and NATO) have joined NATO and the only two missing are Ukraine and Belarus, if they join NATO they would be surrounding a part Russia.

They are responsible for ensuring the security and social problems around the world.

Iceland, Turkey, Norge Norway, Switzerland are NOT part of the EU
Why Russia doesn’t want Ukraine to join the EU?
It means their alliance will go west, their economy and trades would go west.
Russia would feel threatened by Europe as they would be many countries united.
