- to prevent commission of a crime by the client
- to prevent reasonably certain death or bodily harm
- to prevent/mitigate/rectify consequences of a clients criminal or fraudulent act in commission of which the lawyer’s services were used
- to secure legal advice about the lawyer’s compliance with these Rules
- to establish a claim or defense on behalf of the lawyer in a controversy between the lawyer and the client
- to comply with the rules of a lawyers’ or judges’ assistance program
