Q

“It doesn’t seem possible to feel joy when your child suffers with an incurable illness or when you lose your job or when your spouse betrays you. Yet that is precisely the joy the Savior offers. His joy is constant, assuring us that our ‘afflictions shall be but a small moment’ [Doctrine and Covenants 121:7] and be consecrated to our gain.”

So if someone we care about seems distant from a sense of divine love, we can follow this pattern—by doing things that bring us closer to God ourselves and then doing things that bring us closer to them—an unspoken beckoning to come to Christ.

Being content means acceptance without self-pity. Meekly borne, however, deprivations such as these can end up being like excavations that make room for greatly enlarged souls.

Thus, within our allotments we see how the saintly display kindness even within barbed-wire circumstances, yet others have barbed attitudes even within opulence. Meanwhile, the discontented continue to build their own pools of self-pity, some Olympic size.

A

Elder Neal Maxwell

24
Q

Such contented assurance produces not arrogance but quiet acceptance, which is its own form of being “anxiously engaged” but without all the bells and whistles.

Q

Trusting Our Father
God trusts us to make many important decisions, and in all matters He asks us to trust Him.

A

Trusting Our Father
By Elder DavidP. Homer
Of the Seventy

26
Q

“Please, first doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith. We must never allow doubt to hold us prisoner and keep us from the divine love, peace, and gifts that come through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.”

A

President DieterF. Uchtdorf

27
Q

Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend.

A

Mosiah 4:9

28
Q

Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.
Behold the wounds which pierced my side, and also the prints of the nails in my hands and feet; be faithful, keep my commandments, and ye shall inherit the kingdom of heaven. Amen.

A

D&C 6:36-7

29
Q

“In coming days, we will see the greatest manifestations of the Savior’s power that the world has ever seen.”

A

President Nelson

30
Q

Jesus Christ is always calling upon us, and He uses us, His ordinary servants, to help bring His children to Him.

A

Elder GregorioE. Casillas
Of the Seventy

31
Q

For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another.
Behold, this is not my doctrine, to stir up the hearts of men with anger, one against another; but this is my doctrine, that such things should be done away.

A

3 Ne 11:29-30

32
Q

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

A

Matt 5:44
3 Ne 12:44

33
Q

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

A

Matt 5:9
3 Ne 12:9

34
Q

“One of the easiest ways to identify a true follower of Jesus Christ is how compassionately that person treats other people. …
“… True disciples of Jesus Christ are peacemakers.
“… One of the best ways we can honor the Savior is to become a peacemaker.”

A

President Nelson

35
Q

“Contention is a choice. Peacemaking is a choice. You have your agency to choose contention or reconciliation. I urge you to choose to be a peacemaker, now and always.”

A

President Nelson

36
Q

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

A

Matt 7:12

37
Q

“Are you willing to let God prevail in your life? Are you willing to let God be the most important influence in your life? Will you allow His words, His commandments, and His covenants to influence what you do each day? Will you allow His voice to take priority over any other?”

A

President Nelson

38
Q

let us follow Him by forgoing contention. As we pursue our preferred policies in public actions, let us qualify for His blessings by using the language and methods of peacemakers. In our families and other personal relationships, let us avoid what is harsh and hateful. Let us seek to be holy, like our Savior,

A

President Dallin H. Oakes

39
Q

May we bury—very, very deep—any element of rebellion against God in our lives and replace it with a willing heart and a willing mind.

A

By Elder D.Todd Christofferson
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

40
Q

For they became a righteous people; they did lay down the weapons of their rebellion, that they did not fight against God any more, neither against any of their brethren.

A

Alma 23:7

41
Q

And as they buried their physical weapons, with changed hearts, they also buried their disposition to sin.

A

Christofferson of the 12

42
Q

There is no “my way” if we are to follow Christ’s example.

A

Christofferson of The 12

43
Q

There is much in public and personal discourse today that is malicious and mean-spirited. There is much conversation that is vulgar and profane, even among youth. This sort of speech is a “weapon of rebellion” against God, “full of deadly poison.”

A

Christofferson of The 12

44
Q

But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

A

James 3:8

45
Q

Burrying our BLYPPs Christofferson

A

In the end, burying our weapons of rebellion against God simply means yielding to the enticing of the Holy Spirit, putting off the natural man, and becoming “a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord.” It means putting the first commandment first in our lives. It means letting God prevail.

46
Q

In time, He will even take away any desire for evil, as He did with those Lamanite converts of the past.

A

Christofferson
Alma 23

47
Q

As we remain bonded to the Lord, our lives will naturally reflect His light, and we will become the salt of the earth.

A

By Elder JoséA. Teixeira
Of the Presidency of the Seventy

48
Q

39 When men are called unto mine everlasting gospel, and covenant with an everlasting covenant, they are accounted as the salt of the earth and the savor of men;

A

D&C 101:39

49
Q

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

A

Matt 5:13

50
Q

as the Lord’s covenant people, always do our very best so that our love and example are, as much as possible, a pure reflection of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Q

And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions.

A

Mosiah 24:14

53
Q

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

A

Mark 4:39-40

54
Q

If we think celestial, we will realize that our Savior will be there as many times as necessary to provide help if we want to learn, change, overcome, cope, or succeed in whatever will bring true and everlasting happiness to our lives.

A

Elder Juan Pablo Villar
Of the Seventy

55
Q

Behold, this I have given unto you as a parable, and it is even as I am. I say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine.

A

D&C 38:27

56
Q

We must live our life so that the world does not see us but sees Him through us.

A

Buckner, of Seventy

57
Q

we’re all part of one great family. Each has a duty; each has a mission to perform. And when we pass on, it will be reward enough if we can say to our beloved Master, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”

A

Hinkley, 2 Tim 4:7
