A competent standard of work includes: .
1 treating each client with courtesy and consideration; and
.2 seeking to advise your client, in terms they can understand; and
.3 taking all reasonable steps to avoid incurring unnecessary expense; and

you must promote your client’s interests so far that is consistent with the law and overriding duty to the court.
It is not for you to decide whether your client’s case is to be believed.

Don’t ask questions to annoy or humiliate a witness

Must not make serious allegations against an individual without reasonable grounds.

If you make a serious allegation, you must put that to the witness to give them a chance to respond

Owe a duty to the court to act with independence in the interests of justice:
.1 you must not knowingly or recklessly mislead or attempt to mislead the court;
.2 you must not abuse your role as an advocate;
.3 you must take reasonable steps to avoid wasting the court’s time;
.4 you must take reasonable steps to ensure that the court has before it all relevant decisions and legislative provisions;
.5 you must ensure that your ability to act independently is not compromised.

You must not mislead the Court by making statements which are untrue or misleading

-promoting fearlessly the client’s best interests
-without regard to your own interests or consequences to you
-not permitting anyone to limit your discretion on how the best interests of your client can be served
