what were the forms of punishment?
whipping, withholding food, thumbscrews, a last resort; throwing the slave overboard
how did the slaves revolt and resist against ship crew?
they would jump over board, not follow orders, refuse to eat - starve themselves
how was the diet on the ships?
very poor. no clean running water, food was very low in nutrients - they ate mainly porridge and rice
why was disease spread?
due to cramped conditions and poor hygiene, poor diet - worsening immunity, slaves would often get sick by others bodily fluids
what type of diseases were common?
dysentery and yellow fever
how was hygiene on the ship?
very poor hygiene. no toiletries so would have to do it were they were laying, no running water, no clean air

slaves would be chained together, made to dance and sing as entertainment for ship crew
