Q

Why was the Battle of Somme such a disaster for Britain?

How many people died and how much land was gained from it?

A

It was a disaster because of the plan that the Brit’s had come up, waking in a straight line, telling the opposition when they were coming because they blew a whistle. 57,470 soldiers died or were wounded on the 1st July 1916, and by November 620,000 allied troops were either dead or wounded all for 15kms of land to be taken
