Why depression hit Germany so bad?
A
- Was operating on loaned money from the US (was using this to pay reparations).
- 23 billion marks borrowed from US
- High interest to attract foreign investment but everyone was going to NY instead.
- Unemployment was high (3 million) even before depression.

Immediate results of depression
A
- 6.1 million unemployed in 1933
- Collapse in living standards and industry stopped
- Mood was very low and many went to extremest parties - lost faith in the democracy that failed them.

Proof of nazi-depression correlation

Votes:
1928 - 29.8% SPD, 2.6% Nazi, 75.6% turnout
1930 - 24.3% SPD, 18.3% Nazi, 82% turnout
1932 - 21.6% SPD, 37.3% Nazi, 84.1% turnout.
More people came out to vote and they wanted Hitler. 1932 was peak Nazi votes before he became chancellor and peak of depression.
