Condensers Flashcards
Types of condenser splits
Remote refrigeration (10-30 degrees)
High efficiency (15 degrees)
Commercial freezer (20 degrees)
Standard fridge and AC (30 degrees)
1 foot of vertical piping effects PSI how ?
1/2 psi decrease per foot of vertical pipe
Condenser split = what ?
Condensing temp - air entering temp
Fan cycle control is what ?
Pressure switch that controls the condenser fan
Flooded condenser is what ?
- Uses a diverting valve to hold back refrigerant.
- Raises head pressure
- Bypasses hot gas (and some liquid) to the receiver.
How does low ambient effect condensers?
Can lower head pressure which in turn causes metering problems.
(Low ambient is typically below 60 degrees )
How does water and refrigerant flow in a water cooled condenser ? (Tube and tube)
- Water flows in centre tube
- Refrigerant flows in outer tube
- Water and refrigerant flows in opposite directions
What are the two coil types of water cooled condensers ?
- Coil, two separate tubes, one inside the other
- Flange, two separate tubes in straight section, has a removable flange for cleaning
What does a water regulating valve do ?
Controls water flow based on refrigerant pressure.
Waste water uses how many gon/ton?
Normal water uses how many gpm/ton?
- 1.5 gpm/ton
- 3 gpm/ton
Typical work done by the condenser ?
de superheating - 14%
Condensing - 81%
Sub cooling - 5%
How to prevent co axial tube in tube from freeze up during evacuation or charging ?
Maintain water flow or drain the coil
How to clean tube in tube (co axial coil)?
How to clean parallel tube coil ?
- Co axially must be clean chemically
- Parallel tube must be mechanically cleaned
How to clean shell and coil tubes ?
How to clean shell and tube coils ?
- Chemically
- Mechanically
Head pressure control methods
- Pressure regulating valves
- Condenser splitting
- Condenser air louvers
- Electric heat
- Fan speed control and cycling
