Condensation Flashcards
1
Q
Condensation
A
conversion of gaseous substance into liquid state. opposite of evaporation.
2
Q
Ways to perform condensation -
A
- Cooling the gas below a certain temperature
2. Application of pressure
3
Q
Molecular arrangement and energy changes during condensation
A
When heat is extracted > K.E of molecules decreases > temperature falls > reaches a sufficient temperature > further extraction of heat from gas > instead of K.E, it reduces P.E > this causes intermolecular forces of attraction to increase > brings molecules together > at this point it turns from l -> g .
4
Q
Liquefaction
A
The gases have to be cooled below a certain temperature and then subjected to application of high pressure.
5
Q
Critical temperature
A
The minimum temperature above which the gas cannot be liquefied on applying pressure.
