loss of concussions
amnesia
a condition characterized by partial or total loss of memory.
retrograde amnesia
a condition in which a person is unable to recall events that occurred before the onset of amnesia.
anterograde amnesia
a type of memory loss where a person is unable to create new memories after the onset of amnesia, while still retaining memories from before the event that caused the amnesia.
cranium
the skull, the bony structure that encloses and protects the brain.
concussion
a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body. This impact can cause the brain to move rapidly back and forth inside the skull, leading to stretching and damaging brain cells.
coup
type of traumatic brain injury that occurs when the head hits an object, causing damage to the brain tissue directly beneath the impact site.
contrecoup
When the head is suddenly jolted or struck, contrecoup refers to an injury to the brain that occurs on the side opposite to the point of impact. This happens because the brain moves within the skull and becomes injured at a point opposite to the initial impact.
2 signs of concussion
Loss of consciousness and confusion or feeling dazed
2 symptoms of concussion

photophobia
a term used to describe a condition in which a person experiences discomfort or pain in the eyes due to exposure to light.

the perception of noise or ringing in the ears when no external sound is present. It can be a symptom of an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, ear injury, or a circulatory system disorder.
Battle Sign
a bruise that appears behind the ear, usually over the mastoid process, and is a sign of a basilar skull fracture
Epidural hematoma
a collection of blood that forms between your skull and the dura mater, the outermost protective membrane covering your brain
Glasgow Coma scale
a tool used to measure a person’s level of consciousness, including for athletes
Q-collar
something athletes wear to prevent concussions
