retrograde amnesia
loss of memory from the point of some injury or trauma backwards, or loss of memory for the past

an inability to form new memories
Battle’s sign
Bruising behind the ears, indicative of a basilar skull fracture
epidural hematoma
a collection of blood in the space between the skull and dura mater
altered level of consciousness (LOC)
present when the patient is not oriented, does not follow commands, or needs persistent stimuli to achieve a state of alertness
contrecoup injury
damage to the brain on the side opposite the point of a blow as a result of the brain’s hitting the skull
coup
the brain has been injured directly below the point of trauma.
second impact syndrone
a condition in which an individual experiences a second head injury before completely recovering from a prior head injury
battle’s sign
bruising over the mastoid process
epidural hematoma
occurs when blood accumulates between the skull and the dura mater, the thick membrane covering the brain.
nausea
the sensation of having to vomit or having the urge to vomit.
