Battle’s Sign
bruising behind the ear indicating a skull fracture
Epidural hematoma
occurs when blood accumulates between the skull and the dura mater (the thick membrane covering the brain)
when a skull fracture tears an underlying blood vessel
LOC
loss of consciousness
Coup
primary- direct blow
Contrecoup
secondary- whiplash, sloshing of the brain inside the skull
Second impact syndrome
This is when you get another head injury before completely recovering from your first head injury
Concussion
A type of traumatic brain injury that results in many symptoms
Nausea
Can be a result of a concussion
Percent of concussions that result in LOC
10 %
