Finally, the cognitive approach is however less deterministic than other approaches because it recognises that we are free think before responding to a stimulus and aren’t just a composite of everything we’ve learned since birth as the behaviourist approach would suggest.

What does the cognitive approach suggest we do?

It suggests we make meanings out of situations ourselves and is a more ‘interactionist’ position than the hard determinism suggested by other approaches.
