Conceptual Questions Flashcards
Johnny was bored last night so he decided to take a trip to Narnia through his bedroom closet. He found a new plant product, noticing that everyone was eating it. Too bad for him, Johnny is allergic to most fruits because of the organic acids that are sometimes present in the pericarp. How would he be able to tell if it were a fruit or vegetable so he could eat it? If it were a fruit, what could he do to decrease his chances of allergic outbreak to the organic acids?
The fruit would be housing seeds, so he can break it open, or smash it, and see if there are any seeds. Also, he can go over to the home of Mr. Tummus and see how he eats it. Is he eating it like a dessert or is it a part of his main meal? If it’s his main meal it’s probably a vegetable.
If Johnny discovers it’s a fruit, and since he’s already in the home of Mr. Tummus, he might as well stick the fruit in the microwave for a few seconds, just enough to denature the proteins in order to reduce his allergic reaction. He should probably take the peel off for good measure. If that didn’t work and his asphyxiates, may his soul be in the hands of Aslan.
