What is decisional balance
Element of transtheoretical model of behavioral change. It is the number of perceived pros and cons related to adopting and/or maintaining a healthy behavior.
Eg precontemplators and contemplators perceive more cons than pros in adopt a healthy life style. As they move through the stages they see more pros.

Hypothesizes that all sustained changes in behaviors are mediated by self efficacy.

1) establish self efficacy with goal setting:
Goals need to be specific and action oriented, long term goals need to be broke down into incremental and short term goals, time sensitive, acceptable to client, tracking, plan of action, prioritized.
Goals have to have the following: long term goals (6 mons or more) that are broken down (1 or two months), challenging but realistic and feedback.
