Inciting event
The first indication of conflict or trouble (starts the the rising action
Rising action
The main action or plot which is developed through conflict, suspense, motivation, plausibility and point of veiw
Exposition
Provides background information, introduces characters and settings, describes the setting, may recap important events that happened before the action of the story
Omniscient 3rd person
Story told by the perspective of the author and their knowledge is unlimited
Limited 3rd person
The author tells the story in 3rd person but it is told from the viewpoint of only one of the characters
First person
A character in the story tells it from his or her own point of view using “i” or “we”
2nd person
Choose your own ending
Climax
When the story reaches an important turning point- an important event, decision or discovery that affects the final outcome. An emotional highpoint that the complication builds up to
Falling action
Describes the results of the major events as the action winds down
Conclusion
Loose ends are tied up and any remaining questions are resolved
Mood and atmosphere (setting)
The feel of the story that the writer creates in the reader through selected details or words
Dynamic or round characters
These characters are complex and they grow am change throughout the story
Static or flat characters
They do not change throughout the story. Static characters are the same person at the end as they were at the beginning
Protagonist
The main character
Antagonist
The character working against the protagonist
