Golden Rule of Interpretation
All biblical passages are to be taken exactly as they read unless the text indicates otherwise.
Law of Double Reference
A passage of Scripture speaks of two different persons or events separated by a long period of time. We know the gap of time exists due to other Scriptures.
Ex. Zechariah 9:9-10 & Isaiah 11:1-5:
1st Coming of Messiah
(Ze v9 & Is v1-2)
2nd Coming of Messiah
(Ze v10 & Is v3-5)
Law of Double Fulfillment
False view that a single passage can have two fulfillments, both near and far.
Law of Reoccurrance
Two blocks of Scripture record the same event. The second block adds more info/details to the first.
Ex. Creation accounts (Gen 1 & Gen 2)
Tribulation events (Rev 6-16 & Rev 17-18)
Northern invasion of Israel (Ez 38 & Ez 39)
Judah alliance with Egypt (Is 30 & Is 31)
Law of Context
A text apart from its context is a pretext.
Ex: Zechariah 13:6 is not about the Messiah because when in context, Zech 13:2-6 is about false prophets.
Seven Dispensations
- Innocence (Eden)
- Conscience (Adam)
- Government (Noah)
- Promise (Abraham)
- Law (Moses)
- Grace (Church & Trib)
- Kingdom (Millennium)
