Q
What is Centration with examples
Who developed it
When does it occur?
A
Centration occurs in the preoperational stage and is characterized by focusing on a key feature of a given
object or situation while not noticing the rest of it.
Example: 1) A child who focuses exclusively on a clown’s red nose but ignores the clown’s other features
2) a child focusing on the number of pieces of cake that each person has, regardless of the size of the pieces
Developer of Theory: Piaget
Occurs during the preoperational stage
-sensorimotor (birth to 2 years)
-preoperational (2–7 years)
-concrete operations (7–12 years)
-formal operations (11/12–16 years)
