Concepts Flashcards
Blunt force trauma
Slow load application to the bone over a large surface area. Such traumas may result from a blow from an object (such as a club, hammer, or fist) but also include deceleration injuries such as transportation accidents and falls from heights. Fractures from blunt trauma will follow the path of least resistance, propagating until the energy has dissipated.
Characteristics of blunt trauma include plastic deformation, cortical bone delamination, and tool marks or impressions in the bone surface. Due to the slow-loading nature of the trauma there is time for the bone to bend
Button Osteoma
An osteoma is a new piece of bone usually growing on another piece of bone, typically the skull. It is a benign tumor. It presents as small circumscribed hard, dense and ivory-like lumps of compact bone on the skull vault.
