what are the two types of deterrence’s?
general and specific
whats the difference between general and specific deterrence?
general is made to discourage society from committing a similar act of crime whereas specific is designed to discourage the offender.
whats the difference between original and appellate jurisdiction?
original jurisdiction is where the court has the power to hear the case for the first time, whereas, appellate is when the court has the power to hear the case on appeal.
why do we have a court hierarchy?
we have a court hierarchy to allow areas of expertise as well as being able to appeal
whats the difference between a summary and indictable offence?
a summary offence is the less serious crimes such as assault (can be indictable), minor theft and offensive behavior. whereas, indictable is the very serious crimes which include rape, murder and arson.
whats the difference between statute and common law?
statute law is made by parliament whereas common law is made by the courts.
