concept three Flashcards
how do electromagnetic waves act as both a wave and as a particle?
Waves: a disturbance that can carry energy.
Particles: pieces of matter.
-Electromagnetic waves can behave as waves
and as particles, called photons.
electromagnetic spectrum
left side:longer wavelength, lower frequency, lower energy
right side:shorter wavelength, higher frequency, higher energy
uses for radio waves
MRI’s and RADAR
uses for microwaves
cooking and GPS
infrared waves
night vision goggles and remote controls
visible light waves
seeing and light bulbs
ultraviolet waves
kill bacteria and give us vitamin D
X-ray
take pictures of bones and CAT scans
gamma rays
kill cancer cells and radioactive tracers
Doppler effect
as the fire truck move toward the kids the waves are more compressed so shorter wavelength, higher frequency and higher pitch. As the fire truck moves away from the kids the waves are more spread apart so longer wavelength, lower frequency and lower pitch.
convex lenses
reading glasses, magnifying glass, or rear view mirror.

concave lenses
projector, makeup mirror, or dentist mirror
