Concept of hazards Flashcards
What is a hazard
The threat of sustainable loss of life, life itself, property caused by a natural event
What are the two types of hazards
Primary and secondary
What can effect hazard perception
Level of development, social status of people, relationship to location, individual experience
Why do people choose to live near hazards
personal sense of place, lack of alternatives, cost benefits, perception of hazard size, strong sense of survivorship
What is fatalism
Accepting hazards as a part of life that cannot be controlled
What is organised management
preparing via prediction, prevention, adaption/adjustment, mitigation and risk sharing
How are responses shaped by frequency
If they are very frequent, less effort put in
Summarise the hazard management cycle
Event occurs, emergency response, start to restore in recovery, reconstruction to mitigate in future and prepare for next event
Summarise the park model
On two axis, based on many factors and how the hazard even effects it, and how it recovers. Limited time scale and does not properly work for LICS
